AI- Building Sustainable Digital Public Infrastructure for Inclusive Finance in Tanzania through Application of AI
Project Overview
This project aims to harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) to strengthen Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for inclusive, secure, resilient, and sustainable financial systems in Tanzania. Implemented by the Africa Research Institute For AI (ARIFA), the initiative addresses challenges related to trust, fraud prevention, interoperability, governance, digital inclusion, and equitable access to financial services across urban and rural communities.
The project will apply AI technologies such as machine learning, predictive analytics, intelligent automation, anomaly detection, and digital risk assessment to improve decision-making, consumer protection, operational efficiency, and service delivery within Tanzania’s digital finance ecosystem. Key focus areas include sustainable DPI financing models, AI-enabled fraud detection, interoperability frameworks, inclusive digital access for underserved populations, and responsible AI adoption. The initiative will also strengthen local research, innovation, technical capacity, and evidence-based policymaking to support Tanzania’s digital transformation and long-term financial inclusion agenda.
